Choosing the BEST Career

One of the hardest things I went through right after high school was: what am I going to study in varsity? I have also learned that many people do not take questions like this very seriously, in fact at times they don’t even think about them. The reason I was so overwhelmed about the varsity thing was that I knew that what I was going to choose was going to affect me for the rest of life and it was very vital that I choose the best modules that will lend me the career I wanted. Surprisingly enough, it did not work out that way, as I was still confused about this whole choosing modules in varsity and what my dream job really entailed. I also learned that I lacked the guidance to know what I had to do.

For instance I knew that I wanted to study, Psychology BUT I didn’t know what it entailed and that’s why I am here studying for something I never dreamed of doing. I’m not complaining at least I did something with my life, but I still wake up every day and wonder about five years from now if I will still feel like this or maybe by then I will have some love for it! I pretty doubt that myself.

After going through all of this I then knew that it is very important to start thinking about the job you want, because it is amongst most of the things in your life that will definitely bring joy. Besides you might spend about 50 to 60 years working at the same company, well that’s if you’re afraid of challenges and experience.

So I then decided t write about finding the PERFECT CAREER that will most definitely get you where you want to be. First when have to know our:

Values: These are the things that are important to you, (your achievements, status, and autonomy)

  • Values play a very important part when choosing your career because if you don’t take them into account, you are going to abhor your job which means that you will not succeed or prosper.

Interests: what is it that you like doing, (playing golf, taking long walks, reading?)

Personality: a person’s individual persona, what motivates or drives you? Needs and attitudes

Skills: the activities you are good at, (writing, computer programming, and teaching).

Furthermore it is very important to ask yourself the following questions and PLEASE BE HONEST!

  • Is EARNING a large salary important to you?
  • Do you love interacting with people?
  • Is it important for your work to make a contribution to society?
  • Is having a high-status job important for you?
  • Do I love working in small or big companies?
  • Am I flexible enough to grasp opportunities in the workplace?

Whichever way you answer the following questions will tell you about the kind of person you are and the type of working environment that will fit you the most. Tell me about your careers and if they fulfill that need you have, does it challenge you, does it excite you, does it motivate you, and no I’m not talking about the pay. I’m talking about you waking up in the morning and saying……now I’m going to work with a Smile. Don’t be shy, I’m here for you; after all I’m MsMilions you’re golden ticket to being a Millionaire.
